Vulnerability is a word usually met with fear, when Brown actually says that vulnerability is freedom - freedom to be who you are. To be raw and authentic is such a rare commodity these days, especially inside the church. We fear that we won’t make a connection with God, with people, if we let them see our dirty laundry. And yet throughout the whole Bible, we see connections forming left and right. The church was made for connection. And if we could only push away the fear and put away the masks, I think we could see each other in all of the glorious vulnerability that Jesus intended His bride to showcase.
"You should keep the sunflowers," I heard him say from behind me.
"Yellow? For this gig? You’re joking."
I saw him pick up the bundle I had just thrown to the ground.
"Not for the centerpiece." He slowly bent down, laid the flowers in front of me, crossed his arms and leaned against the table. From the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of his smile.
"Keep them for yourself."
